Search engine optimization in Niagara, usually shortened to local SEO, is the work of making sure people nearby can find your business when they search for what you sell.

Most of what a small business in Niagara actually needs out of local search is a short list, and it finishes. Your hours are wrong on Google. Your phone number rings a line you stopped using in 2019. There are two listings for one shop, because somebody set up a second one years ago and nobody remembers who. A review from four years back is still waiting on a reply. Your website says Ridgeway and your listing says Fort Erie, so Google is hedging its bets about where you are, and a hedging Google shows you to fewer people.

That's a job. It has a start and an end. You can pay for it once and get back to running the place.

What actually needs fixing

Almost always the same handful of things, and almost none of them are clever. Your Google Business Profile needs to be claimed under your own name and kept current, the way it should have been from the start. The name, address, phone and hours need to match what's on your website, your Facebook page and whatever directory scraped you in 2014. Duplicates need merging into one clean listing. Your category needs to be the one people search, in the words your customers use out loud when they're standing in a parking lot asking their phone a question.

Then the reviews. Answering them is free, and a reply is public, posted under your business name. It just takes somebody to show you where the button is and what a good reply sounds like.

All of that fits into a couple of days of work, done properly, once.

Three ways to do this

Pick the size that matches the mess. All three are one price in Canadian dollars, paid once, HST included, and the number is always confirmed with you before any work begins.

Good

$1,000

  • Claim and verify your Google Business Profile
  • Fix your name, address, phone and hours everywhere they're wrong
  • Merge duplicate listings into one clean profile
  • Correct your category and service area
  • Answer the review backlog with you
  • Regular updates while the work is underway, so you always know where things stand
  • A one-page report: what was broken, what changed, what to watch yourself

Better

$2,000

  • Everything in Good
  • Citations built and corrected across the directories that actually carry weight
  • Photos organized and uploaded properly, instead of whatever got pulled in automatically
  • A review-request system that's yours to keep: a link, a QR code, a script that sounds like a real conversation
  • Service-area pages checked against what people actually type into their phone
  • Weekly check-ins while the work is underway, so we can steer together as we go
  • A 90-day follow-up look, included

Best

$3,500

  • Everything in Better
  • One or two new pages, written for your top services, built straight into your own site, yours to keep
  • Local schema done properly, on the site itself, so the technical side matches what customers see
  • An honest look at who's actually beating you in the results, and why
  • Weekly check-ins for as long as the project runs, so we can steer together toward what's working
  • A 6-month check-in, included
  • First call if you ever want the site itself rebuilt, same person, already up to speed on your business

If Good turns out to be the right first step, whatever you paid counts toward Better or Best within the next year. It's a top-up, building on the work already done.

Every size above is one payment, not a monthly retainer. If spreading the cost works better for your business, financing is available at 0% interest over 24 months for qualified clients: just ask when we talk.

You own the Google Business Profile login. You own the pages. You own the content. All of it stays yours and keeps working, on its own, long after the job is finished.

Start with the size that's right today, and grow into the next one whenever the business is ready for it.

Think of it the way you'd think of calling a plumber. The tap drips, you call, they come out, they fix it, they go home, and you pay them for the job they did. Most local search work for a small shop is that same shape. It's a repair, sized to how bad the leak is. Get it done and get on with your day.

Now, retainers are a real product, and I'll say so plainly. If you're competing across the whole region, or publishing something every week, somebody genuinely has to be on it every month, and that's real, paid work. For most small shops, the sizes above cover the situation completely. If you'd like somebody watching things after the job's done, that's available too, monthly, and it's a separate decision you can make later, with the first job already finished, paid for and working.

If the listing is the only mess and you want that cleaned up before picking a full size, there is a time-limited Google Business Profile special for $99.95 CAD through November 30, 2026. It sits separately from Good, Better and Best — current specials are on the offers page.

Who you'd be calling

Christopher Ross. I've been building things on the web since 1996, and these days the focus is helping small businesses market themselves online, and I work out of Fort Erie. That last part matters less than the sales pitch usually makes it sound, but it does mean if you'd rather talk at eight in the morning, or you want me to come and look at the actual sign on your actual door, that's an easy yes. Larger consulting work for universities, media and government runs under my own name at thisismyurl.com; Niagara SEO is the local-search practice sized for a small shop. If the site itself needs rebuilding rather than the listing, Niagara Web Design is the sister site for that, same person.

It also means I already know why a shop in Crystal Beach has one set of hours in July and another in February, and why that trips people up. There's more about how search works around here on the Fort Erie page.

The same kind of local quirk shows up everywhere in the region, just with a different shape: Welland runs two downtowns instead of one, Niagara Falls competes against every hotel chain's own SEO budget for the same searches, and St. Catharines pulls from several distinct neighbourhoods that all search differently. Port Colborne and Wainfleet have their own versions of the same problem. See the full list of areas I cover if yours isn't named here yet.

What you keep when the job is done

The Google Business Profile login stays in your name. The citation corrections, the review replies, and any pages written at Better or Best stay on your site. Nothing here is rented software that goes dark when a retainer ends. You get a written report of what changed, and at Better and Best a follow-up look after the work has had time to settle, so you can see the before and after yourself.

A five-minute check of your Google listing

Tick what is true today. It shows what is still open, and none of it is stored.

Check that your listing is claimed, that there is one of it, that your details match your website, that your category and hours are right, and that reviews are answered.

Common questions

Do I have to sign a contract or pay monthly?

No. Each size is one price, paid once. If you ever want more done later, that's a separate decision, not an automatic renewal.

I already tried fixing my Google listing myself. Is it too late?

No, and it's actually a head start. I'll look at what's already there and build from it rather than starting over, so nothing you've already fixed gets undone.

What if my business has locations in more than one town?

Tell me all of them when we talk. Pricing scales by what's actually being cleaned up, not by a flat per-location fee, so you get one number that covers the whole picture.

How do I know this actually worked?

You get a one-page report at Good, and ongoing check-ins plus a follow-up look at Better and Best. You'll see the before and after, not just my word for it.

Do you work across the whole Niagara region, or only Fort Erie?

The whole region. Fort Erie is home base, but Welland, Niagara Falls, St. Catharines, Port Colborne and Wainfleet get the same three sizes, from $1,000, plus Buffalo and Niagara Falls, NY across the border. Each town has its own quirks, and the areas page says what they are.

What's different about SEO for a border town?

Customers check before they cross, so the listing has to be right when they search from the other side. A Canadian address also doesn't show up in a Buffalo map result, so if cross-border work is a real part of your business, that's a conversation about how you're presented on that side. The guide on running one strategy or several covers it.

Where to start

Call or email with your business name, your town, and the best way to reach you. I'll spend some time looking at what's currently showing up for your business online: your Google listing, your website, and how well the two line up. Within one business day, you'll hear back from me directly, in writing, with three things: which of the three sizes fits your situation, exactly what it costs, and what the first week of work looks like.

Call 905.682.4642, or email hello@niagaraseo.com if that's easier. If you'd rather ask a question first and decide later, that works too. Either way, I'll help.
